The Business of Marketing your Book from a Website
Is your idea of marketing your book is to have a sales page where people order your book or are sent to your Lulu sales page? If your basic “business” plan is to write articles and post links on forums to drive traffic to your website and hope for the best. Well that is not a business that is a promotion.
To really turn your writing into a business you need to have two main separate systems in place. You have perfected the first, which is getting them in but the second system must be one that is geared to keeping them, building their trust and have them come back.
Why is this so important? A customer is a customer, if they buy once, they will buy again and it is so,so, much easier to make a second sale. The simple fact of selling on the internet is that it will cost you roughly over four times as much to make that first sale, in time and money than it will to sell to a repeat customer. That is why, to turn your writing into a successful web based business, you will need to be able to offer a steady progression of complimentary books, products and services.
In fact cultivating a repeat customer is so important, that if you have to, you should even consider selling them stuff where you make little or no profit in those early days. This is because once they become long term high spending customers it will be worth it. This is the key, you are there for the long haul. The problems, the hassle and the hard work are all at the front end of a business, the real money is at the tail-end.
