This French author was born in Champaign in 1621 and is best know for his collections or Fables. A version of "The Fables of LaFontaine" was translated into English Verse by Walter Thornbury in 1868 for Cassell. This was illustrated by Gustave Dore and is one of the most collectible editions apart from the very early volumes printed before 1840.
