Born in America in 1888 his only children's book, "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats" takes its name from a nick name given to him by Ezra Pound. This was the basis of the great West End & Broadway musical hit "Cats". It was first published in 1939 by Faber in a cover designed by the poet himself and was then re-issued soon after with illustrations by Nicolas Bentley in 1940.
