He has become one of the most famous French writers of the 19th century best known for historical adventure novels like The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo. Remarkably both these classics were written within the space of two years, 1844-45. Unfortunately for collectors many of the titles were reprinted shortly after the first edition appeared by different publishers, to add to the confusion many of the books are undated.
