Born in London in 1873 he was a student at St Paul's School before going too work in the Oil industry. His first volume of poems was called "The Songs of Childhood" and published by Longmans Green in 1902 under the name Walter Ramal. This was followed by more collections of verse, his most well known been "Peacock Pie", of which one edition was illustrated by W Heath Robinson for Constable in 1916 .
