A welshman with Norwegian parents, he was born in Llandaff, Wales in 1916. He worked in the oil industry before joining the RAF and serving in North Africa in the Second World War. He died in 1990 and will be remembered for several classic children's stories including, "James and the Giant Peach" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" that introduced the world to Willy Wonka. His first book "Gremlins" from the Walt Disney Production " A Royal Airforce Story" that was issued with a dustjacket by Random House, U.S. in 1943 is his most sought after work by collectors.
