His real name was Carlo Lorenzini and he was born in Florence in 1826. Best know for writing "Pinocchio" which was later made world famous by the Disney Cartoon, he took his "pen" name from the village where his mother had been born. He also wrote an inspired translation of Perraults Tales. "Le avventure Di Pinocchio" first appeared in book form, (it had previously been serialised) in 1883. Published in Florence it was illustrated by E Mazzanti. An English translation appeared in 1892 and published by Murray.
