Born in England in 1894 she was to become a teacher for nearly thirty years. She started her literary career by submitting stories to various magazines and published her first book"Gerry goes to School" in 1922 with Chambers. Although she has published dozens of books since then, her biggest following is for the "Chalet School" series of books that she first started with "The School at the Chalet", published by Chambers in 1925. She went on to write over a further 60 stories in the series, the last one been "Prefects of the Chalet School" in 1970.
