A very versatile Free Video Editor, Avidemux supports a wide range of file types. These include AVI, DVD compatible MPEG files, MP4 and ASF, using a variety of codecs. Not only can it perform simple cutting, filtering and encoding tasks, but many of the tasks can be automated using projects, job queue and powerful scripting capabilities.
Avidemux is apiece of cross platform software and is available for Linux, BSD, Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows under the GNU GPL license. The program was written from scratch by Mean, but code from other people and projects has been used as well.
This has resulted in a very user friendly interface designed for convenience and speed with simple operations. Features include WYSIWYG cutting, appending, filters and re-encoding into various formats.
